Why is it that when God does what we petition Him to do we are still amazed? Maybe it's lack of faith, or perhaps it's just our awe of an Awesome God. But either way, I am so amazed at what He is doing at Rose Heights Church in Longview.
I am often faced with the feeling that there just isn’t enough time in the day. Can you identify? People jokingly state that pastors only work on Sundays and Wednesdays. I think most reasonable people understand that a statement like that just isn’t true. Today I sat down to pray, and I kid you not, I had about fifty different major thoughts run through my mind. I took out a notepad and started to write down all of the major things that I need to work on for the future of our church. It was incredibly overwhelming! That’s when it came to me….a question that I think most people ask, “Lord, how do the super successful people get it all done?” I mean, take for example one of my life-long mentors John Maxwell. He writes books (several per year), speaks, prepares speeches, leads a staff, travels the globe, mentors others and somehow still has time for a family. I just don’t get it.Here is my answer to this dilemma facing us….we have to ask the Lord “what matters most?” I mean if I gave up something today, what would it be: Family? Nope! Prayer? Nope! Leading? Nope! Dreaming? Nope! Growing? Nope! So what can I give up? A wise man once said that every day we should make three lists: things we need to do, things we would like to do, and things we absolutely MUST get done. “Then”, he said, “throw away the first two lists!” I think that there is a lot of wisdom in this statement. We only have 24 hours in each day. We will never have 25 or 26 hours; only 24. And there are only 7 days in a week. There are never 8, or even 9.I can’t tell you what to do, but here is what I’m going to do about this problem. I’m going to pray and ask God to show me what REALLY matters. What has He called me to do that no one else can do? How can I make the greatest impact for His Kingdom? Someone once said that it isn’t about working harder, but about working smarter. So I am asking the Lord to please help me work smarter. And I would love to stay and write more on this subject, but guess what? Yep, you’re right…. I’ve got some important work to do!Be Blessed!Tommy
Well good evening church (or good morning, depending when you are reading this). I am so excited to have the Blog back again. This is really going to be a great way to communicate with those of you who are "connected" via the worldwide web.
What a great Mother's Day service we had today. It was such a blessing to see a couple hundred moms in the altar as we prayed a blessing over them. In case you missed the service, we talked about "Honoring Moms" who are Proverbs 31 Women. One interesting thing was to see how "empty" the church would be if it weren't for the moms. It illustrated to all in attendance the importance of moms in the church.
We're looking forward to another great week at RHC. Boost on Wednesday night, together with 180 Service (Youth), and Rocket (our Wednesday night children's program). I am already starting to feel a leading from the Holy Spirit about the message for next Sunday. I won't reveal it just yet, but let's just say God is putting something powerful on the burner of my heart.
I hope all of you have an awesome, incredible and BLESSED week!
